Emily Dickinson was an American poet who spent most of her life in her family home in Amherst, Massachusetts, writing nearly 1,800 poems that almost nobody saw while she was alive. She wrote short, surprising poems about nature, hope, and big feelings, often on scraps of paper she stitched into little booklets. After her death her poems were discovered and published, and she is now considered one of the greatest poets in American history.
