Robert Louis Stevenson was a Scottish author who wrote thrilling adventure novels including Treasure Island, the story that gave the world its most famous pirates and buried treasure. Though often seriously ill, he traveled the world by ship and donkey, finally settling on a South Pacific island called Samoa. He also wrote A Child's Garden of Verses, a book of poems about childhood that families still read at bedtime.
