Wilma Rudolph was an American track and field athlete who overcame childhood polio, which doctors said might keep her from ever walking normally, to become one of the fastest women in the world. At the 1960 Olympics she became the first American woman to win three gold medals in track and field at a single Olympic Games. She is remembered as a symbol of determination and grace, both on and off the track.
